Today, Đakovo embroidery represents one of the most recognizable manifestations of authentic folk folklore in Croatia. Its origins date back to the summer of 1967, when 2. and on July 3, organized for the first time as a tourist and cultural event, at the initiative of Dr. Zvonimir Benčević. In 2023, they were declared the Tourist Event of the Year – confirmation that they successfully preserve tangible and intangible heritage, enrich the tourist offer and strengthen the identity of the local community.
The special feature of Vezovi is that the entire city becomes a stage – every home and every resident is part of the celebration. The event takes place on the first weekend in July, and in addition to a rich folklore program from Slavonia, Baranja, Western Srijem and guest groups from abroad, it includes equestrian performances, exhibitions, a festive procession and the inevitable selection of the most beautifully worn folk costumes. In its 60 years of existence, Đakovočki vezovi has grown into one of the largest festivals of folklore creativity in Croatia.
